You are all surprisingly reasonable. I'm sure there are sorts who would irritate or anger me, but they've got the good sense to stay quiet; it's very considerate of them.
Luka frowns at the Fluid when the message interrupts his working on Lindsey but the guy needs to rest a little in between anyway, so he steps away from the couch to reply.]
[He's pretty sure the answer will be yes even as he types. So his instinct was right. It was going around. Dammit.
Maybe he should inform the hospital, if there is an influx of people suffering from this condition... He steps into another room of the house before switching to video.]
Show me. Are you bleeding? How is your breathing? Is anyone with you?
[Abby's curled up on the couch, staring at her Fluid in increasing horror after the broadcast, unable to believe what she was seeing--hearing, reading. It's not...this is all some kind of trick, right? Another one of Deerington's classic, insane monsters, doing something to mess with them all, it's not like any of this was actually true, right?
That they were just...thoughts. Ideas.
Not even real.
Not to mention what happened to the fairy and whatever...they were talking about everyone falling into despair.]
[He reaches out with his hands, gently cupping her face.]
If that were true she could ignore us. Could ignore this, all of this. A dream doesn't matter, it has no impact on the world. But we're here and she's angry about it.
[Maul has put all his sneaky warrior-ninja skills to good use, breaking into people's houses in the early hours of the morning, and leaving them their gifts in spots where he's sure they'll find them, with a tag addressed to them from Maul. He doesn't quite realize this gesture could be taken the wrong way given this is Deerington and all, but it's the thought that counts.
Luka is about the only doctor Maul trusts to patch him up, so while they haven't spoken in a while, he still got the man a small something. 'For protection from what Deerington throws at you.' The tag reads. Within is a small key that is disguised to fold out into a knife.]
[That's certainly unexpected. And while he's a little indecisive how he feels about Maul breaking into his house, Luka decides to take it in good faith. Lord knows he didn't have a lot of that lately.]
There's not really a commotion, per se, but there's a lot of anxious noises. Muttering, foot-tapping, more knocking, more knocking after that, and maybe, even just to change things up, even more knocking than that. It's daytime and she knows that's a thing now but she really hopes he's not sleeping.
"Lukaaaaaaaaaaa..."
It's not a whine but it really sounds like a wolf whine.
"Luka, come on. Open up."
She's got a scarf pulled over the top of her hair and a longer coat on, but there seems to be something...wrong with the scarf? It's kind of moving a little.
Daytime. He can feel it in his bones even before he checks the window, his inner clock telling him that nope, it's too early. Luka grunts into his pillow, his enhanced hearing unable to block out the knocking, the whining.
The knocking.
The knocking doesn't stop. And knowing her it won't, not anytime soon.
"I'm coming, I'm coming..."
Resigned to his fate he drags himself out of bed and shuffles over to the door with a yawn. A moment later the door opens and he squints blearily at her.
She pushes past him, practically barreling in through the door, talking rapidly as soon as the door opened even a crack.
"So I'm really sorry about waking you, I know it's daytime and I feel really bad about that but I just had to tell you, I mean show you what's happened and I feel like this is probably--no, it's not probably, it is all my fault because I've been trying a thing, you know, because it's good to at least have it in case we need it because this town is so insane but it didn't go well and now I feel like I shouldn't have tried it, but I mean, it's not so bad but it kinda is bad--"
She barely takes a breath as she turns around towards him, taking off her scarf and coat, revealing two fluffy wolf ears and a tail sticking out from her pants.
Luka grunts again, rubbing his face, pushing the door closed with his back.
Okay, okay, she's pretty frantic, she should probably come to, ask what's going on, if the town did something terrible yet again. He should offer some food, too, that would calm her down, he's pretty sure there's still some meat in the freezer and...
... and she takes off her scarf and everything just stops while Luka stares at her, dumbfounded.
Oh sure, everything sucks in general and the town is falling apart, but personally? It's a good day.
She's curled up on Luka's sofa with a delicious slice of raw steak on a plate. What's not to enjoy? Well, Luka's company, too, but hey. The meat's delicious. She tears into it eagerly, paying so much more attention to the food than the fact that she hasn't actually seen Luka. She'd assumed he'd gotten up to do something but now she's one entire steak down and she hasn't seen him back yet.
She chews on a piece of leftover bone, frowning.
"Luka?"
...it's not that she's worried, it's just that this town is...this town and maybe, yeah, she might be the tiniest bit paranoid.
For all she knew a silent dream tornado could have trashed the other side of his house silently and sent him to Oz.
Or he fell asleep getting a cup of coffee or tea or something. She gets up, putting the plate down. Is she being paranoid? She's just being paranoid, isn't she? She'd feel silly about this later.
He's afraid there might not be a lot of good days left. The town falling apart feels eerily similar to Vucovar and Luka wishes so badly he could do things differently this time. That he could just pack up, take Abby and leave before it is too late.
But there's nowhere to go and whatever lies at the end, there's one thing he knows for sure. It won't be good. And all he can do is wait for it to happen. He can't really voice these concerns, doesn't know how to breach the subject, doesn't know how to put into words that he thinks that they'll have a bad ending.
He doesn't know what to do. He doesn't want to upset Abby, he doesn't want to upset himself.
And he oh so wishes things would be different.
Maybe that's how it happens.
He's been a vampire for a while now but he's never actually turned before, not like this. It's the strangest thing. It doesn't hurt, it's just strange, like an itch, he feels hot, he feels dizzy. Shapes and colors warp and shift. It's not like he changes but the world around him.
Luka flails in surprise and the tin with coffee topples over and then... and then he sits on the table in the grounds with a confused (and angry) chirping sound.
No, that is absolutely not him. There's nothing to see here, just a very tiny, very pissed off bat trying to find its footing in the coffee and flapping its wings, blowing it everywhere.
He glances up at her and the chirping intensifies.

A bit on the wild side but it was cute.

[He chuckles at that.]
Is there someone in this city you do not like? Maybe I can send you their way the next time.

Depends on the injury. What's going on?

I just had some wings and a tail rip through my back and spine. That's in addition to the claws and fangs that ripped through my mouth earlier.
[Maul had a pretty high pain tolerance, so the fact he was even asking for help was telling of how much this all hurts.]

Don't listen to her.
[He moves over to the couch to sit with her, reaching out to put her Fluid down and out of the way.]
Whoever or whatever she is, she's just trying to rattle us.

[It's probably best that he puts her Fluid down because she was 2 seconds away from flinging it out the window.]
But what if it's true? I mean, she could be lying but what if it's true?
[It's too much to think about and yet she can't stop thinking about it.]
It makes so much sense, if this is just a dream, maybe we're the dream...

Thank you for the gift.
Please tell me you came down the chimney?

Why tell my secrets? Better to have you left wondering.
[Really, he'd come in through a window, but where was the fun in telling Luka that?]

He's not answering. She frowns, going over to where the table is, expecting to see him there and not--

She smells it before she sees it, really, feeling her instincts immediately stand at attention. She focuses immediately on the tiny thing.
"How'd you get in here? Luka?"
She looks around for an open window but there isn't one. Huh. How could--
